The Most Beautiful Trail on Maui Isn’t Even a Hike
When people think about getting outside on Maui, they usually go straight to the big ones… Haleakala at sunrise, the Pipiwai Trail through the bamboo forest, the Waihe’e Ridge Trail up in the West Maui Mountains. And those are all incredible. But my favorite “trail” on Maui doesn’t require hiking boots, an early alarm, or much physical exertion whatsoever.
It’s a stroll. A beautiful, completely paved, anybody-can-do-it stroll along the water in Wailea. And honestly it might be my favorite part about staying on Maui’s south shore.
The Wailea Beach Path on Maui
The Wailea Beach Path is a paved coastal walkway that runs along the shoreline through Wailea, passing some of the most beautiful beaches and most iconic resorts on the island. The path stretches from Polo Beach at the south end, right in front of the Fairmont Kea Lani, all the way north to Mokapu Beach in front of the Andaz Maui… roughly a mile and a half of smooth, flat, oceanfront walking with views that make it something you’ll probably want to do every day if you’re staying in the area.

Along the way you’ll pass Wailea Beach, Ulua Beach, and the sweeping grounds of some of Maui’s most famous resorts including the Four Seasons, Grand Wailea, Wailea Beach Resort, and the Andaz. Public parking lots at Polo Beach, Wailea Beach, and Ulua/Mokapu Beach make it easy to access even if you’re not staying in the area.
Why You’ll Love This
It’s genuinely accessible to everyone. This is not a trail with elevation gain, uneven terrain, or any section that requires real effort. It’s a smooth paved path that’s completely stroller friendly, comfortable for older travelers, and easy enough that you can do the whole thing in sandals while holding a coffee. If someone in your group can’t do the big hikes but still wants to experience something beautiful and memorable on Maui, bring them here.
The views are extraordinary. You’re walking right along the coastline with the Pacific on one side and some of Maui’s most stunning resorts on the other (perfect for stopping for drinks or a little shopping).

You might spot sea turtles. In the rocky areas between the Grand Wailea and the Wailea Beach Resort, turtles sometimes come up on or near the rocks to rest. It’s not guaranteed but I’ve seen them there enough times that I always slow down and look when I walk through that stretch.
It’s the perfect morning coffee walk. This is my routine whenever I’m staying in Wailea… grab a coffee, get to the path early before it gets hot, and just walk. It’s bustling with people up early from the time change, the air is still cooler, and you’ve got the whole day ahead of you.

It’s free and requires zero planning. No reservations, no permits, no early alarm to beat the crowds to a parking lot. Just show up, make your way down there from wherever you’re staying (or park at any of the public beach lots along the path), and walk. In a destination where almost everything costs something and requires planning ahead, the Wailea Beach Path is a super low key option.
I’ve made it my job for the last 10 years to explore Maui.
And after hundreds of beach days, rainforest hikes, snorkeling trips, and reconnaissance missions to find the best hotels… and mai tais… I put everything I know into one place.
This is my Maui Digital Map — hundreds of my favorite spots. Beaches, snorkeling spots, hikes, farm tours, scenic drives, places to eat.
Yes, I share hidden spots I don’t talk about so much on social media…but also—tourist doesn’t have to be a dirty word. Popular places are popular for a reason.
So I break down what’s worth it, what’s not, where to spend your money, where to save it, and how to avoid crowds at some of Maui’s most popular (and best) places so you actually enjoy your time.
I’m also sharing all of my travel guides on when to go, where to stay, detailed hotel reviews…
plus dozens of itinerary options based on where you’re staying and what you love to do.
It’s everything you need to see the best of Maui and actually relax. A Vacation in a box…all YOU need to do is pack your suitcase.
