I’ve Eaten a LOT of Acai Bowls on Oahu. Here’s Where to Go.
Okay so if you know me, you know that finding a great acai bowl is basically a non-negotiable part of any Hawaii trip for me. Like, I take this very seriously. I’ve eaten my way through a LOT of acai bowls on Oahu over the years and I’ve got opinions.
The good news is that Oahu does acai bowls REALLY well. The bad news is that not all bowls are created equal, and with so many options out there it can be hard to know where to spend your money. So let me save you some time…
Here are my picks for the best acai bowls on Oahu.
Sunrise Shack
If you’ve spent any time scrolling through Hawaii travel content, you’ve probably already seen Sunrise Shack. It’s incredibly photogenic and the bowls live up to the hype. There are a few locations around the island but the North Shore location at Sharks Cove is the one you want.
The vibe is very laid back surfer-meets-health-food and it fits perfectly with the North Shore atmosphere. The bowls are thick, generously topped, and really satisfying. This is a great stop if you’re out exploring the North Shore for the day.
Haleiwa Bowls
Also on the North Shore (sense a theme here?), Haleiwa Bowls is a really solid option that I think sometimes gets overlooked in favor of the flashier spots. But don’t sleep on it. The portions are generous, the ingredients are fresh, and the price point is very reasonable for what you get. If you’re spending the day in Haleiwa town poking around the shops and grabbing shave ice, tack on a stop here. It’s casual, quick, and really good.
Banazai Bowls
Banazai Bowls has become one of my go-to spots and I think it deserves WAY more attention than it gets. The bowls here are really well balanced…good base, great toppings, not overly sweet which I personally appreciate because some places go so heavy on the honey and granola that you can’t really taste the acai. The locations are convenient if you’re not making a special trip out to the North Shore, which is a big plus. Highly recommend.
Island Vintage
Okay, Island Vintage is a little bit of a different situation than the others on this list. It’s located in the Royal Hawaiian Center in Waikiki, so it’s more of a “you’re already there” option than a destination you’d specifically drive across the island for. BUT…if you’re staying in Waikiki or spending time in that area, this is hands down the move. The acai bowls here are REALLY good and it’s also just a fun spot overall with great coffee and a nice menu beyond just the bowls. Expect a wait, especially in the morning, but it moves pretty quickly.
The Bottom Line…
Honestly you can’t go wrong with any of these spots, but if I had to pick just one? I’d probably send you to Sunrise Shack on the North Shore for the full experience. But if you’re Waikiki-based and not making the drive north, Island Vintage will absolutely scratch that itch ; )
I’ve made it my job for the last 10 years to explore Maui.
And after hundreds of beach days, rainforest hikes, snorkeling trips, and reconnaissance missions to find the best hotels… and mai tais… I put everything I know into one place.
This is my Maui Digital Map — hundreds of my favorite spots. Beaches, snorkeling spots, hikes, farm tours, scenic drives, places to eat.
Yes, I share hidden spots I don’t talk about so much on social media…but also—tourist doesn’t have to be a dirty word. Popular places are popular for a reason.
So I break down what’s worth it, what’s not, where to spend your money, where to save it, and how to avoid crowds at some of Maui’s most popular (and best) places so you actually enjoy your time.
I’m also sharing all of my travel guides on when to go, where to stay, detailed hotel reviews…
plus dozens of itinerary options based on where you’re staying and what you love to do.
It’s everything you need to see the best of Maui and actually relax. A Vacation in a box…all YOU need to do is pack your suitcase.
