So you’ve got a day planned at the Polynesian Cultural Center and you’re trying to figure out the food situation. 

If you’re planning to do their luau, you’re set. But if you’re just going for the day to tour the villages, I think you can do a lot better than the onsite options for food. 

Here’s where I’d eat if I were spending a day out there…

The Crouching Lion

If you want a proper sit-down lunch with an amazing view, the Crouching Lion is your spot. It’s nestled right along Kahana Bay which puts it extremely close to Kualoa Ranch and it is GORGEOUS. 

The menu leans heavily into Hawaii’s Asian influences with shareable plates, a raw bar, and meats and vegetables cooked on an outdoor robata grill. Think brisket tacos, wagyu sliders, and kimchi fried rice…it’s the kind of menu where you want to order a bunch of things and share. 

It’s a little more of a splurge than the other spots on this list but the food, the views, and the vibe are all worth it.

Waiahole Poi Factory

If you want the most authentic Hawaiian food experience in the area, this is your stop. It’s a family-owned spot on the windward side of Oahu featuring what many consider the most authentic Hawaiian cuisine on the island, and it’s right on Kamehameha Highway on your way to or from Kualoa. 

The menu is built around the staples of a traditional Hawaiian luau…kalua pig that’s been slow smoked for twelve hours, laulau, squid lu’au, chicken long rice, lomi salmon, and of course fresh poi. 

And do NOT skip dessert. The Sweet Lady of Waiahole is their signature…warm kulolo topped with haupia flavored ice cream and it’s incredible. 

They also have a great gift shop here with a lot of made in Hawaii items. 

Haleiwa Joe’s at Haiku Gardens

This one is a little more out of the way (you’re heading toward Kaneohe rather than north toward the shrimp trucks) but it’s one of the most beautiful restaurant settings on Oahu so I think it’s worth mentioning. 

Situated in the lush foothills of the Ko’olau Mountains, the open-air dining area offers views of koi ponds, waterfalls, and tropical greenery. 

The menu is fresh seafood and local produce with a Pacific Rim flair, and it pairs really nicely as a dinner stop after a full day at Kualoa. The grilled fish is consistently the standout, and the coconut shrimp has been a menu staple since the beginning for good reason.

Famous Kahuku Shrimp

Okay, if you’re already going to be up in that part of Oahu, you have to do the shrimp truck experience at least once. 

Famous Kahuku Shrimp is right on Kamehameha Highway in Kahuku and it’s the quintessential North Shore lunch. Garlic shrimp is the most popular option but I really love their coconut shrimp here too. 

Seven Brothers Burgers

Not a shrimp person? Seven Brothers is the move. The original location is at the old Kahuku Sugar Mill, which has become a hub for food trucks and eateries and is a pretty fun place to walk around for a bit. 

The burgers here are LEGIT…the Paniolo Burger with stacked onion rings is an absolute classic and a crowd favorite. Casual, easy, and really good. It’s a great option if you’ve got a group with varied tastes since everyone can wander and find something they want.
