Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay? Here’s Where to Eat Nearby…
So you’ve got a Hanauma Bay reservation on the books (good call locking that in early, by the way) and now you’re trying to figure out the food situation. Maybe you’re planning to snorkel in the morning and grab lunch after, or maybe you want to fuel up beforehand and need to know what’s actually nearby.
Here’s the deal: the food situation AT Hanauma Bay itself is… not great. There’s a concession/snack stand on site, and that’s pretty much it.
The GOOD news is that you’re not far from Hawaii Kai, which is a residential area just a few minutes up the road with some great options for breakfast or lunch. So here’s where I’d send you…
Where to Eat Near Hanauma Bay
Leonard’s Malasadas Truck at Koko Marina
Okay, if you’ve been to Oahu before, you already know about Leonard’s. If you haven’t…buckle up because this is one of those Hawaii experiences that people TALK about.
Leonard’s is THE malasada spot on Oahu. The brick and mortar bakery has been in Honolulu since 1952, but the truck at Koko Marina shopping center is incredibly convenient if you’re coming from Hanauma Bay direction.
Malasadas are a Portuguese fried dough — think donut, but better, and rolled in sugar or filled with flavors like haupia (coconut), custard, or chocolate. They’re served warm and they are RIDICULOUS.
Honestly, the Leonard’s truck alone is worth a stop whether you’re hungry or not. And yes, it’s totally acceptable to eat malasadas for breakfast. You’re on vacation.
Heavenly Island Lifestyle Hawaii Kai
If you’re looking for more of a sit-down breakfast or brunch situation, Heavenly is my pick. It’s a cute, casual spot right in Hawaii Kai that leans into the whole healthy, island vibe… think açaí bowls, eggs, fresh juices, that kind of thing. The food is really good and the vibe is relaxed and local-feeling, which I appreciate.
I love their kalua pork eggs benny.
Kona Brewing Company
If you’re more in the lunch/early afternoon camp after your snorkel session, Kona Brewing at Koko Marina is a solid option. It’s a big, open-air spot right on the water overlooking the marina, which makes for a really nice setting after a morning in the bay.
The menu is exactly what you want after a morning in the sun…burgers, fish and chips, pizza, that kind of thing…and obviously the beer selection is good if you’re in that kind of mood (and hey, it’s vacation so…). It does get busy, especially on weekends, so just be mentally prepared for a bit of a wait if you’re rolling in around noon.
Moena Cafe
Moena is another great breakfast and brunch option in Hawaii Kai and honestly one of the more underrated spots in the area. It’s a smaller, local gem.
They do really good eggs and Hawaiian-inspired breakfast dishes, the portions are generous, and the coffee is solid. If Heavenly has a wait (which it sometimes does), Moena is a great backup. Or honestly, just go to Moena first ; )
The Bottom Line
Don’t make the mistake of assuming you’ll just figure out food at Hanauma Bay and end up eating a hot dog and calling it a day. The Hawaii Kai area is only a few minutes away and you’ve got some great options depending on what you’re in the mood for. Grab malasadas from Leonard’s no matter what (non-negotiable), and then decide if you want a chill brunch vibe or a cold beer with a marina view for lunch.
Either way, you’re going to eat well. And after a morning snorkeling with sea turtles, you’ve earned it.
I’ve made it my job for the last 10 years to explore Maui.

This is my Maui Digital Map — hundreds of my favorite spots. Beaches, snorkeling spots, hikes, farm tours, scenic drives, places to eat.
Yes, I share hidden spots I don’t talk about so much on social media…but also—tourist doesn’t have to be a dirty word. Popular places are popular for a reason.
So I break down what’s worth it, what’s not, where to spend your money, where to save it, and how to avoid crowds at some of Maui’s most popular (and best) places so you actually enjoy your time.
I’m also sharing all of my travel guides on when to go, where to stay, detailed hotel reviews…
