Maui has a surprising number of Bonvoy properties for an island this size, ranging from full-blown luxury resorts to more no-frills options that just happen to be sitting on some of the best real estate in the state. And while “best” is always going to depend a little on what you’re looking for, I do have a clear favorite…plus a couple of picks that might surprise you.

Here’s how I’d rank the Marriott Bonvoy resorts on Maui, and where I think your points get you the most bang for your buck.

My Top Pick: Wailea Beach Resort

This one gets overshadowed constantly by the bigger luxury names in Wailea…the Four Seasons, the Grand Wailea, Andaz…and I get why. It doesn’t have quite the same brand cachet. But it’s been quietly climbing to the top of my personal list, especially when I factor in value for points.

Here’s what makes it stand out to me. The resort property is long and narrow, which means it has a huge amount of oceanfront real estate relative to its footprint, and they’ve done a genuinely great job maximizing ocean views across the public spaces and pools. You’re not tucked into an interior room staring at a parking lot here…the layout works in your favor no matter where you land, and even common areas like the lobby and restaurants feel like they’re taking full advantage of that stretch of coastline.

It’s also easily walkable to the Shops at Wailea, which matters more than people think. After a day at the pool, being able to stroll over for dinner or a coffee run without getting in the car is a small thing that makes a real difference in how a trip feels. It also means you’re not totally locked into resort dining every night, which…let’s be honest…can get both repetitive and expensive fast.

And then there’s the newer Olakino Wellness Experience, which honestly is what pushes this resort over the top for me. It’s the kind of amenity that elevates a stay from “nice resort” to “VERY memorable,” and it’s not something you’ll find replicated at every property on this list. If you’re the type of traveler who wants your hotel to be part of the vacation rather than just a place to sleep between beach days, this is a meaningful differentiator.

All of that combined with consistently solid award pricing relative to its Wailea neighbors is why, when people ask me where to book with points on Maui (or even cash), this is almost always my first answer. If I had to pick just one Bonvoy property on the island, this is it, hands down.

My #2 Pick: The Westin Maui, Ka’anapali Beach

If Wailea isn’t your scene and you’re drawn to Kaʻanapali instead, the Westin Maui is where I’d point you next. I recently stayed in their newer Hokupaʻa Tower, which comes with access to a private lanai/lounge area, and I really loved it. The views from up there are great, and there’s a lot of added value built into the stay…food offered throughout the day that you won’t find at every resort tier, which can genuinely offset the cost of a trip when you factor it in.

Location-wise, it’s right next to Whalers Village, which means shopping, restaurants, and that classic Kaʻanapali beach walk are all just steps away. If you want a resort that has a lot going on…multiple pools, restaurants, activities, foot traffic…this is the one. It has a different energy than Wailea’s quieter, more spread-out resorts, and for some travelers that’s exactly the draw. Families and groups in particular tend to love this one, since there’s always something happening on property, and you’re never far from the action in Kaʻanapali itself.

Worth Mentioning, But Not My Favorite: The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

I’ll mention this one because it comes up a lot in Bonvoy point conversations, given the brand name attached to it. My honest take: it’s totally fine. There’s nothing I’d specifically warn you away from… the property is well-run and pleasant. But on an island absolutely flush with high-end luxury resorts, it just doesn’t stand out to me the way the name might suggest it should.

The catch is that it’s priced like a standout. If you’re weighing where to spend a limited number of points, I’d rather see you put them toward Wailea Beach Resort or the Westin and get more for the redemption. Kapalua as a region is beautiful and worth visiting, but as a points redemption specifically, this isn’t where I’d prioritize spending mine.

Best Bang for Your Buck: The Sheraton, Ka’anapali Beach

If pure value-per-point is your main priority, the Sheraton on Kaʻanapali Beach is going to get you a lot of resort for a relatively modest number of points. The beachfront location is fantastic …one of the better stretches of sand on that side of the island, home to the famous Puʻu Kekaʻa (Black Rock), where you can watch the nightly cliff dive ceremony without even needing a dinner reservation to see it. It delivers a classic resort experience without the price tag (in points or cash) of some of its neighbors.

The honest caveat: It’s feeling a little tired these days. The bones are good and the location can’t be beat, but don’t go in expecting the freshest finishes or the newest amenities…some of the public spaces and rooms could use an update. If that trade-off doesn’t bother you…and for a lot of travelers who are planning to spend most of their time outside the resort anyway, it won’t…this is a smart, efficient way to use your points without sacrificing on location.

My Sleeper Favorite: The AC Hotel Wailea

This is the pick that tends to surprise people, but hear me out. The AC Hotel in Wailea isn’t a beachfront resort with pools and cabanas and a lazy river…it’s a smaller, design-forward hotel, and it’s an excellent choice if your Maui trip is more about exploring the island than parking yourself resort-side all day.

The real draw for me is the value. I’ve been able to book stays here using 35,000-point free night certificates, which is a GREAT redemption on an island where hotel prices (cash or points) skew high across the board. If you’re someone who’s going to be out doing the Road to Hana, snorkeling at Molokini, and spending your days upcountry…the kind of Maui trip where you’re not actually poolside that often…this is a smart, efficient home base that doesn’t force you to overpay for resort amenities you won’t use.

It’s still in Wailea, so you’ve got easy access to the Shops at Wailea and everything else that area offers, but you’re not paying (in points) for a mile of oceanfront pool deck you’ll barely see. Think of it as the smart traveler’s pick…less flash, more value, and it still puts you in one of Maui’s best neighborhoods.

So, Which One Should You Book?

If you want my honest, no-caveats pick: Wailea Beach Resort. Great value, great views, walkable location, and that wellness experience that puts it a notch above its similarly priced competition.

But the right answer really does depend on your travel style:

• Want a full resort experience with a lot happening around you? Go with the Westin Maui and the Hokupaʻa Tower.
• Prioritizing pure value per point above everything else? The Sheraton Kaʻanapali will stretch your points the furthest, tired decor and all.
• Planning to spend most of your trip out exploring rather than resort-bound? The AC Hotel Wailea is the smart, underrated pick — especially if you can snag one of those 35K certificates.
• Have your heart set on the Ritz-Carlton brand specifically? It’s a solid, just go in knowing you’re paying luxury pricing for a fairly standard luxury experience, nothing that outshines what else Maui has on offer.

One more general note on points strategy here: award pricing on Maui resorts fluctuates with demand like everywhere else in the Bonvoy program, so it’s always worth checking current rates and any ongoing certificate promotions before you book. Prices during peak season (especially winter) can be noticeably higher than shoulder season, so if your travel dates are flexible, that’s often where you’ll stretch your points furthest.

It’s also worth thinking about how many nights you’re actually planning to spend on Maui versus hopping to another island, since that can change the math on which redemption makes the most sense. If this is a one-island trip where the resort itself is a big part of the vacation, I’d lean toward Wailea Beach Resort or the Westin. If Maui is one stop on a multi-island itinerary and you just need a solid, well-located home base between adventures, the AC Hotel or the Sheraton will serve you well without burning through points you might want to save for elsewhere.
