On a recent stay at Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa on Oahu, I spent a morning enjoying the amenities of the Laniwai Spa. Hawaii is home to some of the world’s best spas and resorts and the Disney name exudes first class service so this combo (Disney in Hawaii) sets the expectation bar pretty high!
I arrived for my facial an hour ahead of my appointment to check out the spa and unwind before my treatment. After checking in I was given a tour of the facilities (including changing rooms, showers, quiet rooms, reading rooms, and the outdoor space. All guests indulging in a spa treatment are invited to use the outdoor hydrotherapy garden, Kula Wai. Ancient Hawaiians believed that bathing in fluctuating water temperatures had many benefits for the body and mind and Kula Wai incorporates this belief with a sense of luxury.
This co-ed outdoor facility includes several soaking pools (some with whirlpool jets) and six different waterfall showers (all of varying temperatures and water pressures). The tour also included a stop at the Pulu Bar, a mixology station where you can create a custom body polish using a variety of fragrances, oils, herbs, and a base of cane sugar or sea salt. I was told I could use my body polish during my time at the outdoor hydrotherapy garden or take it home to use later (I kept it as a souvenir!)
After my tour of the facilities, I changed into my swimsuit (required in the co-ed areas) and spent some time enjoying the soaking tubs and waterfall showers. I read for a while in the common lounge area (and had a few healthy snacks) before spending some time in the sauna. When it was time for my treatment, my facialist came and found me and led me to one of the treatment rooms.
I opted for the Certified Organic facial and it was wonderful! The room was very relaxing and I had my choice of several different music options (I chose the traditional Hawaiian style). I was pampered for almost an hour (the facial included a hand and foot massage) and ended with sunscreen application, which was convenient since I was headed to the pool! Once it was over I was able to stay as long as I wanted at the spa enjoying the quiet areas and outdoor gardens.
I’ve had facials at various day spas and resorts and this one was definitely on par but what put this experience over the top were the facilities. You can easily spend hours relaxing in the luxurious lounge and reading areas and experiencing all of the hydrotherapy options.
If you’re staying at Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa (or just want to visit for the day), definitely plan a treatment at the Laniwai Spa to experience the fantastic combination of a traditional Hawaiian experience with 5 star luxury treatment.
